We'll Walk You Through the Permit
You apply as the homeowner — but you won't be doing it alone. Here's how we help.
Call us and tell us about the tree
Tell us where the tree is, what kind it is, and what you want to do. We'll listen and get the basics down.
We'll tell you which office handles your address and what to have ready
Rules vary by city and county. We'll point you to the right permitting office for your property and walk you through what they'll ask for.
You apply, and we schedule the work once you're cleared
The permit is in your name as the homeowner, so you submit it. Once you're approved, we put the tree work on the schedule.
How Florida Tree Permits Work
A plain-English overview of the rules that apply across Valrico, Brandon and greater Tampa Bay.
Florida has no single statewide permit
Tree removal rules come from your city and county, not one state law. Valrico and Brandon fall under Hillsborough County, with additional city rules in Tampa, Temple Terrace and Plant City.
Residential vs. commercial property
Florida law treats a tree on residential property (a single-family home, duplex, triplex or fourplex) differently from one on a business or other property. The property type changes which rules apply.
Dangerous trees on homes
Section 163.045, Florida Statutes generally limits when a city or county can require a permit, fee or replanting to remove a tree on residential property that an ISA Certified Arborist or a Florida licensed landscape architect has documented as a danger to people or property.
Protected and specimen trees
Many local codes protect certain trees, especially large or specimen trees, and some species — like mangroves — have separate state rules. A permit may be required even on residential land for these.
Check before you cut
Rules change and vary by location. The safest move is to confirm with your local permitting office before removing a tree. Call us and we'll help you figure out who to call.
