Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to common tree service questions for homeowners and businesses across Valrico, Brandon and Tampa Bay.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Florida?+
It depends on your city, county and the species of tree. Many Florida municipalities require a permit for certain trees, and some protected species have special rules. We can help you understand what applies to your property in Valrico, Brandon and the surrounding Tampa Bay area — check our Florida Tree Permit Guide for a starting point. If your tree needs a permit, you'll apply for it as the homeowner, and we'll guide you through the process step by step: which office handles your address, what to have ready, and what happens next.
Do you pull the permit for me?+
No. The permit is in the homeowner's name, so you apply for it. But you won't be doing it alone. We'll guide you through the whole process.
What's the difference between trimming and removal?+
Trimming and pruning selectively cut branches to improve a tree's health, shape and safety while leaving the tree standing. Removal takes the entire tree down. Trimming is for trees you want to keep; removal is for trees that are dead, hazardous or no longer wanted.
What happens to the stump?+
After a tree is removed, the stump remains. Stump grinding uses a machine to grind the stump below the soil line so the area is level and ready to reuse. Stump grinding is a separate service from removal, so let us know if you'd like it included.
Should I trim before hurricane season?+
Yes. Trimming before hurricane season — which runs June 1 through November 30 — thins the canopy so wind moves through the tree instead of pushing against it. This reduces the chance of limbs breaking and trees falling in a storm.
Who handles a tree on a power line?+
Never touch a tree or limb that's in contact with a power line. Contact your utility company first — they handle anything touching their lines. Once the utility makes the area safe, we can take care of the remaining tree work.
Do you work for HOAs and businesses?+
Yes. We handle commercial tree service for HOAs, businesses, apartment complexes and property managers across Valrico, Brandon and greater Tampa Bay, including recurring maintenance and one-off removals.
How do I know if a tree is dangerous?+
Signs include large dead branches, a split or hollow trunk, a sudden lean, mushrooms or fungus at the base, and soil heaving around the roots. If you see any of these, especially before or after a storm, give us a call to come look.
Can you remove a tree in a tight spot between houses?+
Yes. We rig trees in tight access — between buildings, over roofs and near fences — bringing them down in controlled pieces rather than one drop. Tell us about the access when you call so we bring the right gear.
Do you clean up after the work?+
Yes. We do the work and clean up, hauling away debris unless you'd prefer to keep the wood or mulch. Just let us know what you'd like left behind when we quote the job.
What should I do if a tree falls during a storm?+
First, stay clear of anything touching a power line and contact your utility if lines are involved. If a tree is on a structure, car or driveway and it's safe to approach, call us — we answer 24/7 for storm emergencies. You can also use our Storm Damage Triage to figure out how urgent it is.
